My friend since high school

Makoto "Mike" Ibushi passed away from colon cancer. His services were 1-21-08 in Norwalk California.Makoto is survived by his mother, daughter Layla, and 2 Grandchildren. I first met Makoto at Costa Mesa High School and after learning we both shared the love of Martial Arts became very close friends. I trained with Makoto at Fumio Demuras dojo in Santa Ana California and at Orange Coast College and our houses in Costa Mesa. I feel very comfortable saying in my opinion Makoto was the best student that went through the ranks at Sensei Demuras dojo. There have been many, many great students from the Santa Ana school. Three of whom I am proud to call good friends. Makoto Ibushi,Ted Belieweis and Mark Collins.

Makoto was featured on many of Sensei's book covers as well as many Martial Arts magazines.

Makoto traveled the world and performed demonstrations with Sensei Demura. I visited with Makoto the day before he passed away. The first thing he said when he saw me was I am going to see Sensei tomorrow! Sensei Demura did come to the hospital I work at and visit.
